My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that every child possesses the potential to excel, and it is my commitment to unlock that potential through dynamic, engaging instruction and tailored support. By fostering a nurturing and individualized learning environment, I aim to inspire each student to reach their fullest potential.

Tutoring Approach

I begin by evaluating the material to be learned and assessing the student's current level of comprehension. In our one-on-one tutoring sessions, I prioritize personalized attention, focusing on strengthening weaker areas while encouraging the student to build on their natural learning strengths. My ultimate goal is to enhance the student's capability and understanding, equipping them with lifelong tools for continued success.

My Education and Experience

BA in English - University of Mary Washington

MS in Elementary Education - University of Mary Washington

Licensed by the state of Virginia to teach ages PreK through 6.

The bulk of my experience lies within the upper elementary grades. I have 8 years of experience in the Catholic School system as a 4th grade teacher and 4 years of experience leading summer camps at a Montessori school, though I am not Montessori trained.  I also have several years of experience working with high school children in a church youth group setting.

Schedule and Pricing

Sessions are generally conducted M-F in late afternoons or evenings. If you require session times outside of this range, please still inquire. I generally recommend one session a week unless there is major catch-up activity required.  Sessions last 50 minutes and are $45

Pricing is generally set to reflect the quality and value of the services provided; however, I understand that each student's situation is unique. I'm happy to discuss flexible pricing options under certain circumstances to ensure that my tutoring services are accessible to those in need.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) What materials should a student bring to a session?

Students should bring pencils, paper, and any relevant learning materials that align with the subjects being tutored. Additionally, any information provided by parents or primary educators is highly valued, as it helps me gain a comprehensive understanding of the student's goals and challenges. If possible, I request that this information be shared prior to the session so that I can come fully prepared to instruct your student. The first session will include an evaluation and getting to know your student while beginning to engage with the tutoring material.

2) Do you offer in-person, online tutoring, or both?

I offer both in-person and online tutoringRegardless of the format, I require that students have a dedicated, distraction-free space to ensure they can focus optimally during sessions.

3) How do parents receive updates?

I provide regular updates to parents at intervals of their choosing, typically via email. Parents are also welcome to reach out to schedule a discussion regarding their student's progress.

4) What is your cancellation policy?

I kindly request 24 hours' notice for cancellations whenever possible. As a parent, I understand that emergencies can occur, and I am flexible in such cases. Cancellations can be communicated via text, email, or voicemail. However, if cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice become frequent, a $20 cancellation fee will be applied.

5) How is online tutoring conducted?

Online tutoring is conducted using Google Workspace tools, and your family does not need to create accounts. Students should have access to a large-screen device (laptop or desktop computer) with high-speed internet, as well as functioning speakers and a microphone. Headphones are recommended to minimize feedback and ensure clear communication.  I may employ other online tools as I see fit and will notify the parent prior to implementing them.
